The Dunbar Foundation
The credibility of Opus Ora as an enterprise and Opus Societas' matching method rests on the work of Robin Dunbar, the British evolutionary psychologist whose forty years of research at Oxford and Liverpool produced the most consolidated theory of human social life developed in the past half-century. Dunbar's Social Brain Hypothesis holds that humans' unusually large brains evolved primarily to handle the complexity of social relationships. The size of the brain's neocortex predicts that a human can only maintain roughly 150 stable relationships, layered into circles of closeness.
Beyond 150 are layers of acquaintances, faces, and recognized people. These bonds are predetermined by commonalities within seven cultural dimensions, and maintained by engaging in shared activities that activate the brain’s reward system.
